BIRTHDAY BLOG - Grateful Reflections

Updated: Nov 6, 2019

Hey EVERYONE!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for being my FB friends, for watching my journey and sharing my work with your world. ITS MY BIRTHDAY! And it's also the anniversary of my indie artist journey. It's been a crazy year full of so many beautiful and challenging moments for sure! It was a year of God's faithfulness and a year of perseverance! I am blown away by how far I've come. I have learned to put myself out there and go after things I never saw myself doing. I learned to love myself and appreciate the people who truly love me. Doors opened that I only dreamed of 2 years ago when I decided to pursue my dreams again. Just to highlight a few of my favorite moments from this year of my life:

I took my second trip to Uganda, Africa and swam in the Nile River

I flew to Austin for a private audition on The VOICE and got SICK the night before losing my voice, couldn't sleep from anxiety, couldn't sing and was completely humiliated on camera in front of strangers

I stood against RACISM with the YWCA Columbus at the Columbus Museum of Art,

I traveled to Alabama and Tennessee to sing with the wonderful Ms. Adria Shahid

I OPENED for Musiq Soulchild at the the Summer 614 Fest at the Columbus Commons

I performed on the Jazz and Main stage at the Comfest with my favorite musicians in the city :-) Robert Mason Greg Owens Geoff Green II and Steven Banks Simeon

I introduced a brand new original song called "Dimples" and rapped on stage of the first time

:-D and performed with Noah Richelsen at the Columbus Soul Fest

I recorded on an album featuring grammy nominated Bobby Floyd, Kevin Turner and the legendary John Paul Jackson!

Walked as a model for Rock the Runway featuring Brad Paisley and bands like the Floorwalkers

I performed for Amber Knicole's DIVAS at the HighBall Halloween

I became an advocate on stage with Real Girls Fart Nina West and Jeni Britton Bauer for the Y's "Activists and Agitators"

I worked with underprivileged and undocumented children to make short films, music videos and visual art to talk about their struggles, overcome bullying and express themselves in a safe place for my company RunSong Studios and continue to teach vocal lessons to my students who are some of my favorite people in the world

I performed, helped sponsor and hosted a portion of the Columbus Black Theatre Festival

I recorded a project with WAV - We Amplify Voices

I got my heart broken

I confessed my eating disorder and began intentionally tackling my own mental health issues

I went vegan for an entire month

I became consistent in my work outs with Blue Collar Grind

I learned to love myself more and embrace my body

I went to Cedar Point with a group of amazing people and and rode the DRAGSTER! .

I saw Lacey Sturm LIVE with my best friend Heart-like Gulzar

I went to my FIRST NBA GAME to see the Chicago Bulls vs The Cavs with April Brown

I released my shirt brand and blogwww.gabriellesolange.com/wearconfidentity and actually sold a few so far!

I auditioned for TEDx for a room full of people and got rejected!

I auditioned again.

I will be a guest on Affirmative Distraction Ft Gabrielle Solange & Paisha Thomas Nov 15.

I will perform at a Black Girls Think Tank for Rise Sister Rise addressing the stigma of mental health issues and others struggles with 2 inspiring women that I deeply admire Barbara Fant and Caroline Bennett at the Columbus Performing Arts Center Nov 21

I'm showing my Christmas music video featuring members of TATTAT at the Gateway Film Center for Music Video Monday! in December!

And I'm planning a mission trip to PERU!

I would not be able to do any of this without the support of you all. I am at your mercy lol I am still growing everyday and gathering the courage to be myself, learning discipline and being consistent so I can be my best self for you guys. Thank you. There are so many other moments I could say but I've realized that above every open door or goal reached the things I treasure most are relationships. This year I lost a friend who served in Uganda with me. It was my first time helping to bury someone. She changed my whole life. I serve knowing she served and perform knowing she's cheering from heaven. To have another birthday is such a blessing that I pray I don't take for granted. Another trip around the miraculously blazing star we call the sun. I look forward to seeing her again and will never forget that this life is temporary. I am grateful for the people that have actually listened to me when I needed to feel understood, showed up to my shows when the audience was all but empty, given to my mission trips though they'd never met me in person, have been patient with me as I learn to be an adult in this crazy world WITHOUT JUDGEMENT, hung out with me even though I was broke, shared my videos and supported me with no strings attached, and rocked my merch! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST. I'm so glad to have my health and to have hope and a purpose.

And lastly, Of COURSE I want to use my birthday (as I did last year) to invite you all to help me continue this journey. You can support me in one or all of three ways!

1. Go to my website order some merch at www.gabriellesolange.com/wearconfidentity

2. Visit my Gofundme and give to my mission fund! www.gofundme.com/GabbyinPeru I'm still far from my goal and the deadline is 11.24. Everything helps!♥

3. Pray for me for guidance, strength, favor, protection and increase

I appreciate you all so much! I ask also for your prayers as I continue to move in the direction of these dreams and callings on my life.
